The main opposition party, the National Coalition, has filed a question of no confidence on the government's handling of unemployment.

The purpose of the motion is to question whether the government has given up on its goal of creating 100,000 new jobs by the end of its term.

The interpolation motion was also signed by the True Finns Party and many of the Christian Democrats.

The Green League didn’t back the interpellation, because they don’t support the National Coalition’s proposals of income tax cuts. The Left Alliance also opted not to support the question of no confidence because it will present its own interpellation motion on municipal services at the end of this month.

Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen will respond on behalf of the government in two week's time, after which Parliament will vote on a possible censure.

This was no doubt prompted at least in part by a rash of layoffs in the industrial sector in recent weeks, despite other positive economic indicators.
